Teachers are facing tougher challenges

Bantul (Kedaulatan Rakyat: 27/10/06) Teachers are now facing and will be facing tougher challenges and demands in the future. The Law on Teachers and Lecturers defines teacher as professional educator tasked to educate, to guide, to lead, to train, to judge and to evaluate students. As professional educators, teachers are required to possess a certain academic qualification, competency and education certificate, Rector of PGRI University of Yogyakarta (UPY) Dr Buchory MS MPd said during the graduation ceremony of 98 graduates of regular and Teaching Act Equivalency programs at the UPY campus in Bantul on Saturday (10/14).

Lacking of attention on education

Jakarta (Kompas: 28/10/06) Stagnation of ideas concerning education in higher institutions, mainly in Teachers Training Institutes (LPTK)  is related to the lack of attention on the science of education. Education expert and former rector of Sanata Dharma University of Yogyakarta, Dr Paulus Suparno, stated on Friday (10/27), that the stagnation was due to the fact that the thoughts of education were focused on management and bureaucracy.

Education Allocation Less than 20%; Lawsuits filed against the government

Solo (Suara Pembaruan: 10/10/06) Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party Agung Laksono expressed disappointment over the low education allocation which has not reached 20% of the State Annual Budget as ruled by the Constitution.
