Jakarta (Kompas: (26/01/07) Difficulties in allocating 20% of state budget for education should not discourage Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s government. If the government is really committed to cover education expenses, there are many smart ways to pursue. “Among others is boosting non-profit sector with conducive taxation. In this case, the state offers tax incentive to companies or non-profit organizations which make donation for education sector," said Hamid Abidin, an activist from Public Interest Research and Advocacy Center (PIRAC), in a Media Forum themed, “Tax incentive for Education Philanthropy: Learning from other countries" in Jakarta on Thursday (25/1).
Meanwhile, Djoko Slamet Surjoputro from the Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance explained that conducive concepts have been suggested in the Law on Income Tax related to philanthropy. For instance, scholarships will not be subjected to tax anymore. |
