Access to Education and Financing

After learning directly from the poor communities, Yunus generated brilliant ideas concerning poverty alleviation. One of them is the establishment of the Gramen Bank, a bank which is specialized in providing micro credit for poor communities. Aside of poverty, Yunus also believes that the world peace is related to access to education which reach out the entire layers of communities.

Sampoerna Foundation Chief Executive Officer Lin Che Wei, threw his weight behind Yunus. “Improving access to education is the responsibility of all of us,” he said. According to him, poverty is not because the community do not have any assets, but they are unable to make use of their assets to gain access to financial loans. The program Yusuf implements in Bangladesh to improve the welfare of the poor community is opening access to business, which will enable them to get out of poverty.“Imagine if over 37.7 Indonesian people currently living in poverty are given access to do their business, how huge is the business potential that could be develop to bring Indonesia to a better future?” Che Wei asks. Finally, Che Wei remarks, the key to the success of Yunus’ program is the trust to give access to the poor communities to create their own way to success.
