Jakarta, May 25 2009 -Talented and beautiful young singer, Gita Gutawa (16) is wonderfully chosen as Sampoerna Foundation (SF) Education Ambassador. The winner of Best Breakthrough Artist and Best Album in AMI Award has recently launched her second album entitled Harmoni Cinta; and showed her concern and commitment to promote education in Indonesia.
Today's ceremonial saw the 50 million rupiah giant check from Sony Music and Gita Gutawa was awarded to SF; and was attended by Toto Widjojo, Managing Director of Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia, Erwin Gutawa and Lulu, producer and also Gita’s parent, Vira Soekardiman, SF Sales Director and Sapto H. Sakti, SF Communication Director in Blitz Megaplex, Grand Indonesia (25/05).. As SF's Education Ambassador, Gita Gutawa will be involve in educational programs of Sampoerna Foundation (SF). From the initial commitment Gita Gutawa through Sony Music, has provided 50 million rupiah donation to SF for scholarship program. In addition, Gitas second album, Harmoni Cinta also support SF's fundraising campaign called "Save A Teen. This program is aimed to provide access of education for student with good academic standing yet has demonstrated financial need. Sales income from CD, Cassette and Ring Back Tone of Gita's album Harmoni Cinta will be donated for Save A Teen program.
As a student, Gita believes that education is important for nations development. "From the second album songs like Meraih Mimpi, Melangkah Lagi and Ayo, Come On, Gita could inspire those who are less fortunate to continue to go to school; and encourage all young people in Indonesia to help those who have limited resources to pay school fees!" said Gita.
According to the data of Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) 2006, there are more than 13 million of school-age children (7-18) who do not go to school. And only 3.39% of the population in Indonesia can complete to higher education (Source UNDP Human Development Report 2007-2008; UNESCO World Education Indicators 2006; BPS 2006)
